LAKELAND, Florida – That Ricky Romeros name was even being mentioned as a possibility for the last remaining spot in the Blue Jays rotation is an indication of the uncertainty surrounding the clubs starting corps less than two weeks before opening day. The above paragraph could be rewritten, verbatim, with Marcus Stromans name in place of Romeros. After both men had disastrous outings in Tuesdays 18-4 mauling at the hands of the Tigers, its clear that neither is the best option to begin the season in Toronto. Whats also clear is that it isnt clear who the best option is to join R.A. Dickey, Mark Buehrle, Brandon Morrow and, presumably, Drew Hutchison in a rotation that last season posted baseballs second-worst starting staff ERA (4.81.) Romero and Stroman were outsiders at best to break camp with the big league club and for different reasons. There had been cautious optimism surrounding Romero, the reclamation project, who had been showing some signs of emerging from his two-year funk. Stroman, meanwhile, is a projected future star and rotation cornerstone who, along with Drew Hutchison and Aaron Sanchez, has the coaching staff salivating. Given the mediocre-to-subpar performances of J.A. Happ, Esmil Rogers and Todd Redmond this spring, theres been some consideration, however small, given to handing Stroman a rotation spot. After all, how much lesser of an option is he than any of the others? Morrow, who missed the final four months of last season with an entrapped radial nerve in his right forearm, has struggled with fastball command this spring. JANSSEN THROWS LIVE BATTING PRACTICE Casey Janssen faced live hitters for the first time since late February. He threw live batting practice on Tuesday morning in Dunedin. "Another step in the right direction," said Janssen. "Got the heart pumping a little bit, which was nice. Im sure Fridays going to be more of the same, hopefully a little bit more in the velocity department, just because therell be defenders behind me." Barring the unforeseen, Janssen is scheduled to appear in his first Grapefruit League game on Friday when the Blue Jays visit the Rays in Port Charlotte. On Tuesday, Janssen threw his fastball, curveball, slider and changeup. He didnt throw his cut fastball. Janssen has been kept out of spring games due to soreness in the back of his right shoulder. DETERMINING LINDS ROLE Adam Lind got the start against Tigers left-hander Drew Smyly on Tuesday as the club works toward determining whether hell be a strict platoon player this season. "I always can hit lefties; I just cant hit the Cy Young lefties," said Lind. "I cant tell you how many people probably hit David Price well or Jon Lester well or CC (Sabathia) well but unfortunately all those guys are in the same division. Its the beauty of playing in this division. You know where youre at as a baseball player." Linds career splits dont lie. Hes hit right-handers at a .286 BA/.850 OPS clip and hits a home run about once in every 20 at-bats. Against left-handers, the number dwindles to .219BA/.603 OPS with a home run in 2.6-percent of his at-bats. Right-handed hitting Moises Sierra, whos out of options, is the top candidate at the moment to take those at-bats against lefties. The Jays are still trying to figure out the plan. Nach 3 Wochen ziehe ich mal kurz Bilanz:

Sie hat im Umgang alles gelernt. Sie achtet auf den Menschen. Wartet, bis sie gehen darf. Steht beim Putzen und beim Satteln wie man sie hingestellt hat. Eine Stallkollegin sagte, sie sei tiefenentspannt.

Sie geht super an der Longe ohne toben. Schritt, Trab- da muß man schon fordern und Galopp auf Wunsch. Im Roundpen hat sie gelernt auf Handzeichen die Richtung zu wechseln. Klappt auch mit 2 Ponies da drin. Man ruft sie zu sich, sie kommt. Dann schickt man sie wieder...

Das Kopfschlagen ist gänzlich weg. Was sie tut ist- stupsen. Wie die Milka Kuh. Und zwar dann, wenn sie Aufmerksamkeit möchte. Sie spricht mit einem, man muß erst mal rausfinden was sie möchte. Das Stupsen beim Putzen heißt nichts anderes als, wasch mir das Gesicht! Sie liebt es den Kopf gebürstet zu kriegen.

Nicht lustig - nur für Zuschauer: 15 Liter Kanne Wasser links, 15 Liter-Wasserkanne rechts. Man ist im Begriff diese neben dem Bottich draußen abzustellen. Bückt sich... und Maja stupst. In den Mors. Mit Glück wendet man das Tieftauchen kopfüber im Wasserbottich gerade noch ab.

Sie steht den ganzen Tag draußen und kuschelt mit Zippo. Die Beiden sind inzwischen allein dort, haben aber übern Zaun noch die Ponyruppe und die Nachbarspferde.

Zur Arbeit selbst. Inzwischen hat sie sich auch an die Ausbinder gewöhnt. Die sind beim Longieren erst mit Gurt, dann mit Sattel, so lang verschnallt, daß sie sich aussuchen kann, ob sie die ignoriert, oder annimmt. Verschnüren ist immer falsch und ich arbeite nicht bei der Post.

Inzwischen tritt sie immer wieder an das Gebiß heran und ich hab sie Ausbinder um 2 Loch verkürzt. Sie beginnt sich zu dehnen und zu strecken. So wollten wir das haben! Manchmal traut sie nur dem Frieden nicht.

Alles in allem: Ein tolles Pferdchen, daß sich immer besser macht. Die Grundlagen stimmen, jetzt kommt das Reiten. Problem: Allein ist sie unsicher. Sobald ein anderes Pferd dabei ist, ist alles wieder gut. Hibbelmaus. Aber das wird auch noch.

Allgemein ist man überall von ihr angetan und ist erstaunt, wie die sich in der kurzen Zeit entwickelt hat.

Vorgestern hatte ich ein ernstes Gespräch mit der Besitzerin. Wir glauben beide nicht, daß sie als Schulpferd in deren großen Betrieb taugt. Sie braucht eine Bezugsperson. Mit dieser Person dann ein Jahr Training und die sahnen überall ab. Maja ist eine Wucht.

Jetzt braucht es noch die Wucht an Reiter. Sonst droht ein Wanderpokaldasein. Also jemand erfahrenen, der ein Endmaßpony mit Sachverstand handelt und arbeitet und - sie liebt. Dann hat derjenige einen Freund fürs Leben.

Eine Woche ist jetzt um und weiß nicht, wo ich anfangen soll. Beim Montag? Wäre mal was.
Am Morgen erst mal nach dem Frühstück lernen, daß man nicht aus der Box zu stürmen hat, sondern brav wartet, bis man ein Halfter angelegt bekommt und dann erst nach Aufforderung zu gehen hat.

Man darf auch niemanden einfach umbüffeln, nur weil man jetzt aber gerne los möchte. Erst mal umgucken dürfen und weil so noch kein Außenplätzchen frei ist, wegen 2 Verletzten und einem Fohlen, das auch was hat... ab in den Roundpen. Den kennt sie schon und sie kann sich bewegen und hat Gesllschaft. In der Zeit kann man die Boxen machen.

Die Halle ist frei und die Betten gemacht. Maja kommt in die Halle, um sich richtig auszutoben. Aber nicht ohne Hintergedanken. Natürlich ist bei der Freilauferei auch Erziehung im Spiel. Folgen, Halten, Abwenden.

Für einige Stunden mußte sie dann ins Zimmer mit Aussicht. Blöd, aber immerhin hatte sie was zu gucken. Und Heu sowieso.

Am Nachmittag dann Putzen und - satteln. Als sie das Ding sah, hatte sie Spiegeleier-Augen. Ein Getanze und Gezappel da. Schon beim Putzen. Stillstehen? Was ist das denn? Mit viel Geduld und Spucke geht auch das. Dann das Auflegen des Sattels. Ohje! Und gaaanz langsam den Gurt. Nee, dieses Pony hat Angst. Aber wie. Sowas Aufgeregtes!

Ich leiß mir viel Zeit und bis wir um die Ecke in der Halle waren waren gute 20 Minuten vergangen. Ich führte sie. Ne hanze Weile. Dann versuchte ich etwas nachzugurten. Ein Kreisel an der Hand. Ich ließ die Bügel herunter und führte weitere an die 20 Runden mit baumelnden Bügeln. So richtig eingekriegt hat sie sich nicht. Egal. Ich wollte jetzt wissen, was da reiterlich zu machen ist und versuchte aufzusteigen. Wir haben eine schöne Aufstieghilfe, die das Pferd entlastet, aber an das Ding wollte sie nicht. Nicht noch mehr erschrecken, dachte ich. Einige Versuche später dann, halb im Gehen war ich da oben. Hmmm

Schritt. Viel Schritt. Pony hatte den Hals oben und streckte den Rücken nach unten. Steif, schnell. Übereilt. Vorne faßte ich sie gar nicht an. Bloß nicht! Ein kleiner sehr harter Trab. Und dann bitte auch nicht unbedingt rechts herum. Viel Lob und erst mal Ruhe in das Pony kriegen.

Irgendwann wollte sie dann auch in die Tiefe. Vorwärts-abwärts. Aber immer nur kurz, dann zuckte es durch sie durch und die Nase war wieder ganz weit vorn. Das kann es nicht sein. Wir beendeten das Ganze. Sie stand wie eine eins, als ich absaß und den Gurt lockerte.

Sie konnte noch 2 Stunden raus, dann war der Tag auch um.

Dienstag

gleiche Prozedur am Morgen. Nur OHNE umrennen wollen.
Am Nachmittag fast auch. Ich hatte n Höhenflug an diesem Tag. Nachdem ich einen anderen Sattel ausprobierte-die Sattelei dauerte nicht ganz solange und die Zappelei war weitaus weniger- da war ich nach 3 Runden führen beim 2. Anlauf auf dem Pony und sie stand. Eine längere Trabphase brachte noch nicht das gewünschte Lockerungsergebnis, aber die Stute war viel ruhiger. Sie regariert gut auf den Schenkel und das Gewicht. Es ist nur noch nicht der wahre Jakob. Wir übten die erst einmal wichtigsten Lektionen, wie Halten, ruhig stehen bleiben. Anreiten, wenn es gewünscht ist. Und auch Antraben nur auf Wunsch. Viel im leichten Sitz... ich denke mal es war viel für den Kopf.

Mittwoch

Den Kopf einmal freipusten bitte. Morgens spielen in der Halle und wieder die Bodenarbeitslektionen zur Gehorsamsverbesserung. Auslüften draußen und am Nachmittag? Trense drauf und ab in den Wald. Das Pferdchen, es war ganz aufgeregt. Und fand alles sooo spannend. Runter vom Hof, vorbei an den Fohlen, die eine unglaubliche Faszination auf sie ausüben. Dann vorbei an weiteren Kollegen und da: Der Wald.

Ich hatte das ruhigste und liebste Pony an der Hand. Eines, daß dioe Luft einsaugt, alles beguckt und keine Angst hat. Neugierig immer weiter, immer weiter... die wäre mit mir bis nach Rade gelaufen, wenn ich nicht mal umgedreht wäre. Und es war kein Eilen, es war wirklich mal ein Spaziergang, denn sie hat sich dann doch an meinem Tempo orientiert.

Das konnte sie alles dann den Kollegen draußen erzählen, bevor es dann ins Bett ging. Maja, die Waldfee.

Donnerstag

Langsam war ich auf Zinne, denn der Paint, mit dem sie zusammen soll, da krieg mal die Besitzerin zu fassen. Machmal, meinte die. Ja geht es noch? Und das dämliche Fohlen verschwindet auch nicht und belegt hier Platz. Ich denk, die will ausziehen. Wie heißt das Lied? Dann geh doch!?

Maja macht sich. Die Benimmregeln hat sie kapiert. Artig wartet sie, bis sie darf. Sie weiß ja, was sie tun soll, oder was nun kommt. Die ist alles andere als doof. Und sie will gefallen, aber ist dabei einfach übereifrig. Ein Tick, der nervt, ist daß sie versucht nach links-immer nach links, Dich mit dem Kopf wegzuschubsen. Das macht sie dann so ungeschickt, daß auch kein Verschluß hält. Vera öffnete den Karabiner vom Halfter und hatte den dann in der Hand. Haha Halfter geschreddert. Nee kann man reparieren.
Jedenfalls, solange man nocht in Reichweite ihres Kopfes steht, ist das kein Problem. Aber das Geschlage wird weniger. Heute saß ich nochmal drauf. Hektik kam auf. Aber dann im Schritt, war es ruhig. Sie sucht die Anlehnung, findet sie und kann nicht so ganz den Weg in die Tiefe gehen. Immerhin ist das schon nicht mehr giraffenartig. Aber zufrieden sind wir beide mit der - Gesamtsituation - noch nicht. Ich glaub Maja wird rossig. Na das hat jetzt gerade noch gefehlt.

Freitag

Übern Zaun lernte sie nun Sioux kennen und man war sich auf beiden Seiten des Zaunes einig: Ich kann dich nicht leiden. Damit war das Thema durch. Wir spazierten ein wenig (morgens wieder Freiprogramm gewesen) und dann putzen. Ich gehe schon nicht mehr mit dem Striegel drüber. Nur mit einer Bürste und selbst das ist ihr unangenehm. Das ist nicht normal. Ich kam mit einem dicken Pad. Legte es auf. Tanzen. Aber es biß nicht und das war gut. Ich kam mit einem Gurt. Tanzen. Ich schloß ihn sehr vorsichtig. Kopfschlagen. Ich zog die Trense auf. Stehen. Gurtete nach... nix.

In die Halle und an die Longe. Ohne Ausbinder. Sehen, wie sie läuft. Gut, das habe ich schon besser gesehen, aber sie ist albern. Nicht bei der Sache. Das gibt sich dann und sie macht schön mit. Links besser als rechts. Aber die Nase hoch. Schließlich Schnauben und etwas strecken. Na mehr wollen wir doch gar nicht.

Ein Paddock ist frei und ab jetzt ist das Majas Platz. Zippo freuts, hatte er bisher doch den 2-m-Zaun dazwischen und Maja findet ihn wohl auch sehr nett. Nun trennt sie nur noch eine Litze. Was für ein Geschrei, als es Richtung Zippo ging. Ich hatte plötzlich einen Hengst an der Hand. Schade, dran vorbei und hintern Zaun, meine Liebe.

Das störte ja Maja nicht. Die hat ihm erst mal was weiß ich wieviel vor die Nase gerosst und die Kiste zwischen die Litzen gehalten. Und Zippedeus konnte nicht von ihr lassen. Zusammen geht nicht. Dann läßt er sich den ganzen Tag von ihr tragen.

Und auch die müssen sich abwechseln mit dem Plätzchen. Dann ist da noch Devin. Der hat seine Nase auch unter Majas Schweif gehalten, aber fand dann wohl, daß da schon Zippo dran war... der ist ein ganz ein ruhiger. Man darf ihn nur nicht hinlassen, der meint dann auch zu einem Dauereinsatz gerufen worden zu sein.

Samstag

Morgens benehmen und spielen. Den Tag über draußen sein und am Nachmittag arbeiten. Nochmal Longe. Und sie ist so neben sich. Mit der Madam kann man nichts anfangen. dazu ist die Rosse auch noch ansteckend. Denn die Shettystuten legten sofort auch los. Kollektives Bewußtsein. Die Wallache rundherum, auch vom Nachbarn drehen allesamt durch und Maja steht kleckernd in der Mitte und freut sich. Ich mich nicht. So kann man nicht arbeiten.

Sonntag

Also wenn ich einen Gurt anziehe, der nur ein Pad hält, dann geht es. Aber wenn ich einen Sattel gurte, dann tut es offensichtlich weh. Ich befrage dazu Vera und heute gehts weg von den Verliebten mit dem Star, den das alles nicht interessiert, weil Maja schon mal die falsche Farbe hat. Star mag das kleine Schwarze schon immer und sonst- rassistisch wie der Gäule nun mal sind - ausschließlich Fjordmädchen. Star wird geritten und ich laufe mit Madam an der Hand in den Wald. Entschleunigung heißt das. Mit sowas hibbeligem hat es keinen Zweck und den Wald, den findet sie gut. Der hat eine sehr positive Wirkung auf Maja.

Maja hat einen Punkt im Rücken auf der rechten Seite, der ist das, was sie drückt. Fragte ich das nicht vor einer Woche? Da tut es weh. Pony ist auch schief. Weil sie auch noch die eine Seite entlastet. Das ist ein Fall zur Akupunktur.
2 Nadeln in den Kopf und eine Lange in den Rücken. Die Nadel, die sonst im Pferd verschwindet, ging nicht mal einen Zentimeter rein. Alles fest und hart. Na dann erklärt sich die Angst, das Wegdrücken und das appeldwatschte Laufen von selbst.
Vera hat zusätzlich gelasert. Warten wir, was morgen kommt.
Wenn sich die Rosse langsam mal nicht mehr derartig aufs Gemüt haut, wäre ja schon viel gewonnen.

Ich bin ganz hibbelig. Es ist aufregend. Heute kommt Maja.
Maja ist die fleischgewordene Arroganz. Maja kam Ende letzten Sommers in einen Stall und-wie soll ich sagen-sie funktioniert nicht. Es ist ja nicht so, das dieses 7 jährige Mädchen nicht könnte. Sie ist ein gutes Pferdchen, aber sie ist , sagen wir mal wenig kompromissbereit.

Letzte Woche sah ich sie das erst Mal. Ich stand ein paar Schritte von ihrer Box entfernt und sah ihr zu, wie sie ihr Heu zermalmte. Dieses Pony hat mich aktiv ignoriert! Jedes Pferdchen schaut Dich an. Und fragt auch: "Was will die?" oder "Hey, Dich kenn ich! Hast Du n Keks?" oder einfach nur "Kratz mich mal hinterm Ohr!" Dieses Pony nicht.

Ihr Blick schweifte hochnäsig an mir vorbei in die Landschaft. Ein zweiter Blick, mit anscheinend nicht vorhandener hochgezogener Augenbraue. Das war s. Boah!

Man erzählte mir dann, daß man gar nicht sooo glücklich mit ihr wäre, weil sie eben ist wie eine Katze. Die sucht sich ihre Menschen aus.

Und aus dem Bauch heraus kam es mir über die Lippen: Soll ich die mal mitnehmen?

Das ist ne Aufgabe, eine Herausforderung. Wer mich derartig ignoriert und eine unsichtbare Krone trägt, der schreit ja förmlich - nur nach was?

Kurz: 2 Tage später war entschieden, sie kommt zu mir und wir beide werden es mal miteinander versuchen. Mal schauen, was die Maja drückt.

Gestern haben wir dann die Box ausgewaschen und nett vorbereitet. Das Bettchen ist fertig. Um 12-High Noon hole ich sie ab. Weil sie dann neben dem Star schläft, steht mit Kreide an der Tür: Maja, Star-Gast.

Erst mal n Kaffee und ne kurze Besprechung in der heimeligsten Küche Hamburgs. "Du mußt das so sehen: Pony macht Ferien." meinte ich. "Nein, die geht zur Schule!", hieß es. Im Stillen einigte ich mich dann auf "Bildungsurlaub", weil Schule immer so einen negativen Touch hat. Und in diesem Fall wie eine Strafe. So ein Nachsitzen, oder so.

Das Verladen stand an. Ich holte die Maja aus der Box. Sie war sehr freundlich zu meinen Möhrenstücken in der Tasche. Artig ließ sie sich das Halfter anlegen und aus dem Stall führen. Wir standen dann vor der Rampe und das entrüstete Schnauben und diese Mimik: DAS verlangst Du aber bitte nicht von mir!" veranlaßte Julian gleich nach einer Longe zu fragen, ober er die mal anbringen solle. Nein, sagte ich, kein Zwang, das machen wir so. Und dann waren es 2 einhalb Anläufe und sie stand - möhrchenkauend - auf dem Hänger. Das ging ganz ruhig und gesittet vor sich.

10 Minuten Gerumpel, dann bist du da.

Die Fahrt ging flott. Nur 2 doofe Ampeln. Ich hasse bremsen und Anfahren mit Pferd hinten drauf. Ich selbst fuhr nicht. Frau Besitzerin fuhr. Aber trotzdem spanne ich meine Bauchmuskeln an, als gelte es einen Mr. Universumtitel zu erringen.

Ausladen auch gut und dann erst mal in die Sonne in den großen Longierzirkel. Das Ding heißt auf neudeutsch Roundpen. Hat eine 2 Meter hohe Einzäunung und rundherum Pferde, die natürlich alle gucken kamen. Maja wich nicht von meiner Seite. Egal wohin ich mich bewegte, sie folgte. Klar. Kannte ja nun gar keinen da und mich nur vom - ja Verladen un da war doch was zu essen in der Tasche? Pony eben. Sie hat nicht gebettelt.

Dann erst mal ihre Sachen verstaut. Julian schleppte noch den Futtersack in die Kammer. Nach einer Begehung trennten wir Zweibeiner uns und Maja und ich, wir dümpelten noch eine Weile im Round herum. Dann ließ ich sie mit den Herren allein. Sie wälzte sich und die Decke war mal auf dem Pony. Hab sie schnell befreit und 2. Anlauf mit dem Allein lassen. Zippo war ganz angetan. Er macht den dicken Macker und das Fohli nebenan machte immer nach... Die Herrenriege vom Ponypaddock benahm sich dann netter. Zwiegespräche übern Zaun. Schnee, Sonne und einfach Ruhe.

Ich machte Stars Box und bereitete sein Heu vor und dann eine Decke auf den Stuhl am Stall mit Blick auf alles. Kater kam. Kater, der Graue sprang auf meinen Schoß und wir wärmten uns. Er schnurrte und Maja?

Die knabberte Heu, ging dann zu Zippo. Ignorierte Fohli, quasselte bissi mit Harley, der aussieht wie Murphy. Ist wohl ein Bekannter, dachte sie sich, aber dann war Star wieder dran. Die Shettymädchen waren interessiert an ihr. Sie aber nicht an ihnen und so kam sie immer wieder ans Tor und schaute mich mit ihren großen dunklen Augen an. Wir bepbachteten uns gegenseitig.

Irgendwann so nachdem sie 2 Studen da war, ging ich mit ihr in die Halle. Sie klebte an mir. Ich mußte sich richtig von mir wegschicken. Und ich wartete drauf, daß sie sich wie ein wilder Watz aufführte. Nix. Dann traben. Flach, aber schnell. Hier und da ein paar Äpfelchen fallen lassen. Türen untersuchen. Laufen. Schnauben. Dann rufen und sie kam sofort. Klar, Möhrchenstück dafür und Strick dran. Artig wieder in den Round zurück.

Vera kam und brachte den Trog mit. Schnell den Akkuschrauber gezückt und ran damit.
Für heute war es Aufregung genug für Maja.
Vera wird sie nachher zusammen mit Star ins Bett bringen. Es war inzwischen schon 16 Uhr. Mir war wirklich kalt. Und Maja machte einen fröhlichen Eindruck.
